Firstnighter is the story of life, love and loss in the time of the Great Financial Crisis. The narrative is Ulysses-like, following a typical day in the life of the hero (the "firstnighter"). From waking from a dream about an absent lover, the firstnighter spends the rest of the day encountering harried mothers, self-important VIP's, financial criminals, bored employees, Americans and between those encounters, himself. The CD was released through CD Baby in June 2009 and features Timothy Mendonsa on guitar, piano, harmonica and vocals; Leighton Christopher Smith on vocals, guitar and mandolin; Tommy Furlong (alias) on bass, Terry Cotter (alias) on drums. The music is rock-based but highly diverse, ranging from driving rockers such as "Sunshine", "Someday I'm Going to Feel" and "All Through the Night" to ballads such as "Sides" and "Animal" to up-tempo tappers such as "Julie Won't Laugh" and "Uniform". The CD ends with the instrumental work, "Televisions in Trees," which reflects the dream world the firstnighter enters at the end of the day.
