"Animal" is the second of the internal monologues on Firstnighter. The song expresses the feelings of the singer about loneliness occasioned by physical separation behind a theme of the utter meaninglessness of separation. There is also an underlying theme that individual achievement (the drive that ignited the Financial Crisis that is the background of Firstnighter) is relatively unimportant and certainly overrated when compared to love. The song is a beautiful ballad performed with passion and clarity by Timothy Mendonsa of the band.
