"Sunshine" is the opening song of Firstnighter and the first internal monologue in the narrative. As the story begins, we find the hero greeting the day with thoughts of his departed love ("As a plane flies overhead, the Firstnighter greets the day"), probably after a very good night of romance. This establishes the interwoven themes of togetherness and loneliness in a world dominated by the personal greed that led to the Great Financial Crisis.
