Kev Gray is a British singer-songwriter based in Tokyo. Previously with the band, Akibakei, he built up a cult following due to his quirky lyrics and the odd juxtapostiton of his velveteen vocal style and the dark themes that mirror the work of The Beautiful South, The Smiths and Morrissey. Highly respected on the Japanese music scene he won the prestigious Gaijin Sounds 2008 award for his song, How The Story Ends, and was declared 'a lyrical genius' by the national press in Japan. He subsequently won sponsorship from the British arts patrons, Jack and Jill, to form Hemlock Music in late 2008, and recorded his first solo CD, Shipwrecked, at the world-class Medici Studios in Australia with award-winning producer, Mike Stangel.
