Joseph or José Tobías Conejos Ortells (Rubielos de Mora, c. February 17, 1673 - Segorbe, December 3, 1745) was a Spanish composer and master of chapel. He should not be confused with José or Joseph Conejos Igual (1709-1785), also originally from Rubielos de Mora and master of chapel of the Cathedral of Jaca. Nor should he be confused with Manuel Conejos de Egüés (1654 -1729), nor with his brother Miguel Conejos de Egüés. It is possible that they are all part of a family of musicians, but there is no evidence of this. He was born in Rubielos de Mora, in the province of Teruel, the son of Tobías Conejos and María Ortells. It is possible that Antonio Teodoro Ortells was an uncle on his mother's side. He was baptized on February 19, 1673 in the Church of Santa María la Mayor in Rubielos de Mora, so he would have been born a few days earlier, which the musicologist Marqués estimates on February 17 or 18. Little is known about his later stage, but he is supposed to have been in Valencia. Two facts indicate it: on the one hand, there are compositions and drafts of José Hinojosa copied by Conejos in the Royal College of Corpus Christi, some commissioned by the same College. On the other hand, his uncle, Antonio Teodoro Ortells, was a chapel master of the Corpus Christi College (1674-1675) and the Cathedral of Valencia (1675-1704), the two most important musical positions in the city.
