about

Manuel Just Verdeguer (Catarroja, June 23, 1707 - Valencia, May 18, 1787) was a Spanish composer and master of chapel. Although Muneta Martínez makes it originally from Valencia, 1 Hervás Vila places its birth in Catarroja, not far from the city of Valencia. He was admitted as a singer in the cathedral of Valencia, where he received his musical training from Pedro Rabassa, with whom he studied singing and composition. On July 2, 1733, the master of the chapel of the Albarracín Cathedral, Joseph Gargallo, was given permission to be absent from his land for a month, for health reasons. Gargallo did not return to Albarracín, so the Cabildo decided to hand over the position to Manuel Just. The chapter acts do not reveal whether there was opposition: [...] was presented [...], in the company of Dn. Pedro Sánchez as a legitimate procurator of the Copatron in the chaplaincy of the Master of Chapel, to Manuel Just, having told said Cabildo of his suitability and sufficiency, and on the same day in the afternoon with the assistance of said gentlemen [...] demanded perpetual benefit and forever with decree and authority of Mr. Monterde as Vicar General, of the distributions that said chaplaincy has, gave possession of said benefit to said Manuel Just [...] with the salary he has as Master of Chapel Chapter Acts of the Albarracín Cathedral, October 11, 1733 There are no more relevant mentions to the teacher in the chapter acts, apart from the participation as a judge in opposition
