Joan Barter (Mequinenza (province of Zaragoza), 1648 – Barcelona, 1706) was a Catalan musician and composer. He was chapelmaster and organist in Lérida and in the cathedral of Barcelona, a position he obtained in 1682 and held until his retirement in 1696, when he was replaced by Francesc Valls. Barter strengthened the educational work of the cathedral choir. He also tried to improve the quality and quantity of the music chapel's staff by hiring new singers. His tomb is preserved in the cloister of the cathedral. His surviving works consists mostly of sacred music.
