Francesc Espelt (Barcelona,? - Manresa, 22 August 1712) was a Catalan chapel master, organist and composer. Espelt, son of Josep and Maria, was a member of a cobla of xeremillers from Barcelona who were hired on June 27, 1686 by the construction of the basilica of Santa Maria del Mar, to play during communion. Later, four years later, on July 4, 1690, he was appointed chapel master in the same basilica, a position he held until January 9, 1696, when he resigned to become a monk in favor of his brother, Pau Espelt, rector of the parish of Santa Maria de Sorba in the diocese of Solsona and dependent on the monastery of Ripoll. Finally, he was succeeded by Francesc Valls. During his stay in the basilica of Barcelona, in 1687 he ran in the competitions for the position of organist, which he already held temporarily, but lost the competition. From the 2nd to the 6th of December 1692, competitions were held in Santa Maria de Mataró to fill the position of chapel master of the parish, where Espelt was part of the court together with Ignasi Vidal, organist of Santa Maria del Mar and Josep Puig, organist of Santa Maria de Mataró. On November 13, 1697, he again ran as a candidate for the position of chapel master of Santa Maria del Mar. He won the examinations and occupied the post again until January 22, 1699, when Espelt resigned to marry M. Teresa Susan, widow of the master of the house, Francesc Monjo.
