António de Baena (fl. 1540/1562) was a Portuguese knight and composer of the Renaissance. Hypothetically, he may have also developed activity as a chronicler. António de Baena was the son of Spanish musician Gonçalo de Baena . He was, simultaneously with his father and João de Badajoz , chamber musician of the Portuguese kings D. João III and D. Sebastião . In 1540 , in an obvious attempt to publicize his son's work, Gonçalo de Baena published Arte again invented to learn to play a collection of keyboard adaptations of several compositions by the great names of Franco-Flemish and Iberian music , including several works by Anthony of Baena. In 1558 , he is still listed as a chamber musician, on the death of D. João III . Wrote an "Art of Music". He participated in the military campaigns in North Africa. In Mazagão , he was knighted by Captain Álvaro de Carvalho , during the great siege of 1562 by the Moroccan Sharif Abdalá Agalibe . A charter was later presented to King D. Sebastião , who confirmed the order of chivalry on September 18 , 1562 : " D. Sebastião […] let those who are reading this letter know that António de Baena, my chamber musician, son of Gonçalo de Baena , presented me with a knight's license from Álvaro de Carvalho , from my council and captain of my village of Mazagão , made in it on the sixteenth day of the month of May of this present year of MDLXII in which it was stated that he had made and knighted the said António de Baena because he was in said
