Andrés de Villalar de Herrero (Zamora, c. 1530 - ibid., 1601?) was a Spanish composer and master of chapel of the 16th century, a time of remarkable musical growth, both in composers and in singers and instrumentalists. In the summer of 1563 it seems that he competed to obtain the position of chapel master in the cathedral of Córdoba, being the winner through a secret vote on July 5 with thirty votes, and having as competitors Diego Ximénez (master of chapel of that cathedral from October 15, 1561 until his replacement by Villalar) and Jerónimo de Barrionuevo. During his three-year stay as a chapel master in Córdoba, the longing for his land became latent, which made him ask the chaplain of Córdoba for permission to visit his sick mother in Zamora. Granted permission, Villalar returned to Zamora to never return to Córdoba. After the chaplain received the letter of resignation of the Zamora on December 16, 1566, the Granadan Gerónimo Durán de la Cueva was assigned as his successor on April 24, 1567, who will remain as chapel master until his death on January 7, 1615. In 1566, Villalar went to Burgos as a chapel master to succeed Rodrigo Ordoñez. According to minutes, he was called by the Cabildo de Burgos himself, who had commissioned the task of looking for a chapel master for two canons.
