Juan (de) Olorón (Tarazona, fl. 1545-1570) was a Spanish chapel master, active mainly in the Cathedral of Huesca from 1551 to 1566. Very little is known about the life of Juan de Olorón and the teacher was ignored for a long time by encyclopedias and musicologists, as was the case of Subirá, Pedrell and Anglés.2 It is known that from 1545 he was master of the chapel of the Collegiate Church of Santa María la Mayor of Calatayud, possibly until 1551. On March 11, 1551 he was appointed chapel master of the Cathedral of Huesca: "The lords of the chapter chose Johan de Olorón, the beneplacito of the chapter during, for the chapel master, to which they assigned a ration and thirty shields of augmento." On May 9, 1552, the council decided to raise his salary by 17 pounds per year. On July 7, 1559, he was punished for an unknown offense. This was the first conflict of many between Olorón and the town hall of the Oscense metropolitan. It seems that Olorón was of a strong character, a living temperament, stubborn and perhaps somewhat bohemian and unsubmissive. In any case, it seems unlikely that the "crime" would go beyond administrative offenses, since a criminal act would have fallen under the jurisdiction of a bishop and not the council.
