Artist
Acacio Garcilópez de la Peña (Argecilla?, c. 1720 - Sigüenza, November 12, 1781) was a Spanish composer and maestro de capilla. He had his musical training as an infant in the Cathedral of Sigüenza, with the teacher Salvador Sancho Iturmendi.3 The event is recorded on August 17, 1733, the date on which he requests fifteen days to visit his "parents and relatives". In 1739 Garcilópez had grown up and his "voice or instrument that can serve the choir or chapel [...] is so skilled in music," so the council tried to find a solution, although without success. At the beginning of 1740 he was in Madrid, but he returned to Sigüenza in 1743, as lieutenant of the chapel master, due to the ailments of Salvador Sancho, who since 1737 showed signs of illness. The position of tenure of the magisterium existed in other cathedrals - sometimes as a second teacher - but not in Sigüenza, so the position was created ex professed. His salary was 6 reais a day, with the promise of occupying the position of teacher after the death of Sancho. Salvador Sancho Iturmendi died on August 11, 1754 in Sigüenza, so Garcilópez became the chapel master the next day. He remained in office until his death on November 12, 1781. Juan Lorenzo Muñoz Sánchez succeeded him in office. Few works of Garcilópez are preserved, the main one is Vespers of Our Lady, which is divided into four parts: the psalms "Dixit Dominus", "Laudate Dominum" and "Beatus vir" and a "Magnificat". His works can be heard on Pascual Rubio
