Album
"The Wall" is the eleventh studio album by the English rock band Pink Floyd, released on 30 November 1979 by Harvest/EMI and Columbia/CBS Records. A rock opera, it follows the character Pink, a disillusioned rock star who builds a psychological “wall” of social isolation. The album topped the United States charts for 15 weeks and reached number three in the United Kingdom. Initially met with mixed reviews, with some critics describing it as overblown and pretentious, it has since been acclaimed as one of the greatest albums of all time. Bassist Roger Waters conceived the idea for "The Wall" during Pink Floyd’s 1977 In the Flesh tour, drawing inspiration for the character of Pink from himself and former member Syd Barrett. Recording took place between December 1978 and November 1979. Producer Bob Ezrin assisted in shaping the concept and easing tensions within the band, who were facing personal and financial difficulties. Keyboardist Richard Wright was dismissed by Waters during production but continued to perform on the subsequent tour as a salaried musician. The album produced three singles: "Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2," which became Pink Floyd’s only UK and US number-one single, "Run Like Hell," and "Comfortably Numb." From 1980 to 1981, the band staged a tour featuring elaborate theatrical elements to perform the album in its entirety. In 1982, "The Wall" was adapted into a feature film written by Waters. With over 30 million copies sold, "The Wall" is the second
