Album
Third album from Canadian rock'n'roll band Big John Bates & the Voodoo Dollz - this is easily the most indie-rock album the band ever did. And the amount of Jager consumed certainly helped when they were naming their third album Take Your Medicine. Between listening to groups like the White Stripes and SCOTS and with the input of new drummer Gregory Macdonald (now with indie-rock darlings Sloan), Bates decided to focus on doing an album with a lo-fi production with a real live feel. The Medicine CD started off with a threatening, female voice-mail from a close friend of John's and busted wide open into an indie-blues number that got a lot of attention - "Aren't You Pretty". The song that got the most attention on the record was one they did a video for - the tongue-in-cheek grindhouse-styled: "Burlesque Is Dead".
