Posthumanism is the fourth full length release of Vortech and it was released on 16 April 2009. The album features Juha Untinen doing all the composing and instruments and Matti Särkimäki doing all the vocal work. This is also the first release with Matti Särkimäki as a permanent member. This album is surprisingly the first Vortech release to feature a Sci-Fi theme, even though the music has been futuristic in style for quite a while. The story kicks off with a conglomerate discovering that humanity is about to become extinct, unless drastic measures are taken in the form of cybernetic implants. The initial tests are conducted on abducted humans from the rainy streets of an unknown futuristic city. This soon leads to acceptable results and a massive project is launched, but soon questions rise about where the line between human and machine is drawn. A conflict arises and true humans are soon eradicated by the bionic creations. The album is a return to the more aggressive style of Wasteland (2007), with a much faster average tempo. It is also the first Vortech release not to feature separate ambient songs. Instead, ambient interludes are part of the regular songs both by themselves and as additional ambience behind the mayhem. Despite being heavily guitar-oriented, there are probably more electronics going on than on any previous releases.
