Attractive Nuisance is the first EP released by the San Diego, CA, band The Innocent Bystanders. The EP was released in November 2017. Each of the songs were written by members of the band -- or in one case by a friend of the band -- many years before in conjunction with other projects, but never previously released. Gotta Get Out of Here was originally written by Robert Karp in the 1990s for the band Redemption, which never released any music. The lyrics are believed to have been inspired by a relationship Karp was going through at the time. The original version was much sparser and more country flavored than the one released by The Innocent Bystanders. Highways was written in the 1990s by The Innocent Bystanders original keyboard player Kaimi Wenger in the 1990s. He came up with the song while living in Arizona and driving through the desert each day to get to work. What he saw on the commute led him to think about the certainty of nature and the uncertainty of human relationships. Like all of the songs here, it originally lacked the Jessica LaFave's saxophone parts which drive the song. Emerald Eyes was written in the 1990s by The Innocent Bystanders original saxophone player Eric Lane for the Albert Alley Blues Band, which performed in Washington, DC. By the time the EP was recorded, Lane had left San Diego for Rey, New York. LaFave stuck close to the original saxophone parts in this song, which is probably most similar to its original version of the four on the album.
