'Analogue Droids' is an appropriate title for a band who are becoming more comfortable in the studio with each record. Cowboy X are moving away from their former alternative-indie swagger and embracing an electronic sound scape, first heard in 'Gabbi'. This EP shows their growing emphasis on making well produced studio-sounding music. Each song flows seamlessly into the next. The title track adopts vodocoded vocals and layers of synthesizers for their own formula of robotic pop. 'Ed White's Glove' begins by stripping away all their guitars to vocals and synthesizer. The song progresses into a section of dark atmospherics before the band kicks in and bringing it to it's climax. 'Villain In Disguise' commences with an unnerving ticking of a clock and builds up into swirling riffs and piano. Yet they show no signs of taking themselves too seriously. 'Squirrel Catch Ball' is a Girls Aloud/The Kills hybrid sounding self parody on why their songs aren't being "played on the radio" and compares their music to "Niagara Falls". This effort establishes the band's experimental tendencies and ambitious song structures. 'Analogue Droids' utilises the technology of a studio; giving it an exciting, polished sound that hints at how creative their album, due next year, will be.
