Cowboy X have done it again. They have crafted yet another fine piece of infectious alternative pop. 'Break Me' is the next single to be released off their sophomore album 'Meant To Be Machines'. Which could possibly be the clever answer to the question that their debut album poses - 'Who Are These People?' Structurally, this is a very daring song. With it's multiple layers, it is difficult to get your ears around everything first-go. The song opens with simple electronic loop that breaks into the thumping guitar riff. Here enters McCartney with a hypnotic melody that catches and draws the ear in. What is striking in this song is that there is no chorus. Instead a melancholic piano and the opening melody reappears throughout which binds the song together and allows for a strong focus on the lyrics. We see McCartney's lyrics grow and flourish. Arguably at her most sincere and admiting, she uses lines such as "I wouldn't be much here without you" and "I have messed up so completely". You can't help but feel attached to this song. These fragile and direct lyrics make the song very relatable and difficult to not get emotionally connected to it. Having heard 'Break Me' live many times before it was recorded, I have seen this song develop and , yet, I was still suprised and joyed when I heard the final cut. You can tell that there are producers in this band. This is a band that loves the studio and sees it as a part of making a great song. The song is a piece of studio genius. A
