Whitesnake were an English rock band formed in London in 1978. The group was originally assembled as the backing band for singer David Coverdale following his departure from Deep Purple. By the mid-1980s, Coverdale sought to expand the band’s presence in North America, where they had previously achieved limited recognition. With the support of the American label Geffen Records, Whitesnake released "Slide It In" in 1984, which included the singles "Love Ain't No Stranger" and "Slow an' Easy" and received significant airplay on MTV. In 1987, the band released their self-titled album, issued as "1987" in the United Kingdom. It became their most commercially successful release, selling more than eight million copies in the United States and producing the hit singles "Here I Go Again", "Is This Love", and "Still of the Nigh
