"Whitesnake", commonly referred to as "1987", is the seventh studio album by the English rock band Whitesnake. It was released in the United States by Geffen Records on 16 March 1987 and in the United Kingdom by EMI Records two weeks later. The album achieved significant commercial success, selling over 8 million copies in the United States, where it was certified eight-times Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), and more than 25 million copies worldwide. It reached number two on the US Billboard 200, where it remained for ten non-consecutive weeks, and was prevented from reaching number one by "The Joshua Tree" by U2, as well as albums by Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson. It spent more weeks in the top five than any other album in 1987 and remains the band's highest-charting release in the United States. In the United Kingdom, it peaked at number eight on the UK Albums Chart. The album produced several singles, including "Still of the Night", "Here I Go Again '87", "Is This Love", and "Give Me All Your Love ('88 Mix)", while "Crying in the Rain '87" was issued as a promotional single. "Here I Go Again '87" reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100, and "Is This Love" reached number two. Following the conclusion of the tour for "Slide It In" in January 1985, which included performances at the Rock in Rio festival in Brazil, drummer Cozy Powell left the band.
