Artist
Formed in 1972, Spriguns of Tolgus were initially an acoustic duo comprising Mike and Mandy Morton, a husband and wife team who ran their own folk club in Cambridge, United Kingdom. Subsequently joined by Rick Thomas (fiddle) and Chris Russon (electric guitar) they cut a cassette-only album, Rowdy Dowdy Day (1974). The following year the band saw their first vinyl LP in Jack With a Feather. Shortening their name to Spriguns, the Mortons recruited a new band and signed to Decca for a brace of highly-regarded albums. The original name Spriguns of Tolgus combined a 'spriggan' (an evil spirit in Cornish faerie lore) with the name of a tin mine in Redruth.
