Spiders for Love is a lo-fi indie pop / anti-folk outfit from Omaha, Nebraska. Their music is frequently compared with the Moldy Peaches, and Beat Happening. They were formed in early 2008 by (husband/wife) DL & CJ Diedrich. The two first met in early 2007 after exchanging demo tapes online, and developing a deep respect one another's music. CJ was promoting a release with her former band, Syd/Sid, and playing on and off in Duffle Band, with Dustin Viney, CJ's boyfriend at the time. DL had been performing in Kansas under the name 'Hugh Manitee', and later moved to Nebraska with CJ and the two began collaborating shortly after. S4L was originally concieved as a industial/metal project in the vein of bands like Ministry, and Atari Teenage Riot. The music took on a completely different form by the time they began playing shows in Summer of '08. DL had been writing and playing children's music, and the resulting indie-folk sound became their trademark. The original lineup initially included Dany Reyes (DJ XL) on turntables, but the three never officially practiced together, and the group continued primarily as a duo. Only weeks after they wrote their first few songs, they began work on a 5-song ep, titled S4L, recorded by close friend Cricket Kirk (Paper Owls), who was also featured on bass in the recordings.
