Slight Ache was a very short-lived Dutch rock band from Amsterdam, The Netherlands. They released just one single: 'Second Flood' b/w 'Back To The Zoo' (1970). Despite the group's almost complete lack of commercial success, they are now a remarkable footnote in the story of Dutch rock: an original Slight Ache single will now cost collectors a small fortune. This is due to the personnel involved. Named after a Harold Pinter play, Slight Ache was established by young comedians Freek de Jonge and Bram Vermeulen, who were just making it big in The Netherlands as [artost]Neerlands Hoop In Bange Dagen, the country's most sensational (and controversial) 'rock & roll comedy duo' of the 1970s. Slight Ache was their attempt to be succesful as an English-language rock group. Their backing band featured pop singer, Patricia Paay, session musicians Jan and Hans Hollestelle and the rhythm section of the Thijs van Leer Trio, a predecessor of progressive rockband Focus. The Thijs van Leer Trio would also record a Dutch-language Christmas single with Neerlands Hoop. During the recording sessions they first got acquainted with guitarist, Jan Akkerman, who would join Focus. The Neerlands Hoop Christmas single is, therefore, the first official release the full line-up of Focus that would move on to international glory.
