Siegfried Schmiedt (* around 1756 in Suhl ; † 1799 there) was a German composer and music editor . Schmiedt came from the Electoral Saxon official town of Suhl. In 1786 Siegfried Schmiedt became proofreader at the company Breitkopf & Härtel in the trade fair city of Leipzig . There he made mainly excerpts from several Singspiels for piano, including those by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart , Karl Ditters von Dittersdorf and August Friedrich Ernst Langbein . Schmiedt also published some of his own works in print. In 1796 he set up his own business in Leipzig, but his small publishing house went bankrupt after only two years due to excessive competition. He then returned to Suhl, where he died a broken man in his early forties. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
