Artist
Friedrich Christian Samuel Mohrheim (1718/1719–1780) was a German organist, Kapellmeister and composer associated with Leipzig and, later, Danzig (Gdańsk). Authority records place his birth in Neumark near Weimar and his death in Danzig, and he is documented as having studied at the Thomasschule in Leipzig (1733–1736) before university studies at Jena (1738) and Halle (1739). He went on to work at St. Mary’s Church in Danzig, serving as a substitute Kapellmeister from 1750 and as Kapellmeister from 1764 until his death. His surviving music includes instrumental and organ repertory such as a Harpsichord Concerto in C minor, an organ Trio in G minor, and a set of 6 Choralvorspiele transmitted from a Berlin manuscript source. Modern performance projects devoted to Danzig church music have also brought his cantatas and arias back into view.
