Pietro Sanmartini (Florence, 1636 - Florence, 1701) was an Italian composer of the Baroque era. Pietro Sanmartini (or Sammartini) was born in Florence in 1636 from a modest family that has always been devoted to the Medici family . In 1669 he became a musician at the Medici court and in 1686 he became choirmaster of the cathedral of Florence , a position he held until his death in 1701. In his lifetime, Sanmartini published a series of instrumental compositions, all of which were lost except the 10 Sonatas or symphonies Γ due violin, viola da gamba and viola with bass, op.
