Francesco Genuino (1570 - 1614), an almost unknown Neapolitan composer, published five books of madrigals in the first two decades of the 17th century, three of which have come down to us, some incomplete. Genuino is a good example of a 'minor' Southern composer whose treatment of dissonance is particularly unorthodox. He was much influenced by Carlo Gesualdo.
