Ottavio Durante was a 17th Century Italian composer and singer, who in 1608 in Rome published his Arie devote, eighteen sacred Latin and two Italian texts set for solo voice (or duet for those with a texted bass), and figured basso continuo. These works, the earliest of their type to be published, are similar to the solo monodies of Caccini. Unlike Caccini's monodies, however, these have very elaborate vocal passaggi.
