New Victorians blends vintage and modern sounds to create a cinematic landscape. The resulting three album series about lovers in WWII London is complete with a proper rock band, synthesizers, a string section and actual WWII broadcasts and sound effects to create albums that evoke a cinematic experience rather than just being a collection of songs. The first of the three albums, simply titled " I " was released on March 21, 2012 and starts with a broadcast by Edward R. Murrow during the Blitz over an ever expanding string orchestra, which then morphs into the hurried sounds of a bombing raid, then seamlessly into Between The Lights, the first song, with a propulsive beat, sweeping strings, churning guitars, all under lead singer Ben Hardt's singing from the point of view of an American man catching the eye of an English girl during a bombing raid. The rest of the narrative unfolds throughout the songs and sound effect vignettes telling the complex story of two lovers in London during WWII.
