Manuel de Osete Gasca y Viamonte, also as Osette, Ossete and Ossette, 1715 - Granada, April 23, 1775) was a Spanish composer and chapel master. He was educated musically as a choir infant in the Cathedral of Sigüenza, so he was supposed to be originally from the diocese of Sigüenza. The fact is known by an inscription in an eight-voice Nunc dimittis that is preserved in the Cathedral: "Made and copied by Manuel de Ossete, choir, in this church of Sigüenza. Year of 1732 and corrected by Master D. Salvador de Sancho." Therefore, Salvador de Sancho Iturmendi would have been his teacher, since he occupied the teaching in Sigüenza between 1729 and 1733. In 1734 he was in Madrid when he became interested in the vacancy of the magisterium of the Cathedral of Ávila, although he did not show up. The magisterium of the Cathedral of León had become vacant a few years after the death of Simon Araya and the council had used other close teachers, such as Gregorio Remacha of the Collegiate Church of Toro, to compose the music of the most important festivities. In 1745 it was finally decided to hold oppositions to occupy the position and a teacher from Madrid was hired to judge the compositions presented to the oppositions. This teacher, who seems to have been Osete, who with the help of his godfather, José de Lupia and Roger, bishop of León, obtained the teaching of León in March 1746.
