Andrés de Escaregui Mendiola (February 23, 1711 - Fitero, July 4, 1773) was a Spanish composer, chapel master, organist and harpist of Basque origin. Andrés de Escaregui was born in the Gipuzkoa town of Eibar, in the Basque Country, on February 23, 1711. He developed his entire musical career in the Cathedral of Pamplona, first as a choir infant (1718); then as a substitute for organist and harpist (1728-1730) and titular harpist (1730-1738); and, finally, as a chapel teacher (1738-1773). After his musical training in the choir and making some substitutions, in 1730 he presented himself to the oppositions, without success, for the organization of La Seo de Zaragoza. However, he was able to practice as a titular harpist in the Cathedral of Pamplona. Before occupying the position of chapel master, the Cabildo entrusted him with the education of some choir infants and the composition of some works together with the organist Andrés Gil, since the titular chapel master who preceded Escaregui, Miguel Valls, did not properly fulfill his obligations. Once he entered the teaching profession, he was also part of the opposition courts that were responsible for selecting the musicians who occupied the vacant places. At first he had problems with other members of the chapel and even with the education of the infants, even requesting before the council that he be exonerated from it, but, without any success. In 1771, due to certain health problems, he got the retirement from the choir
