about

Joseph Conejos Igual (Rubielos de Mora, 1709 - Alquézar, 1785) was a Spanish composer and master of chapel, active in the Cathedral of Jaca. Joseph Conejos Igual was born in Rubielos de Mora in 1709, in a family with numerous musical contacts. His uncle was Joseph Conejos Ortells, chapel master of the Cathedral of Segorbe, and Conejos Ortells was also the nephew of Antonio Teodoro Ortells, chapel master of the Cathedral of Valencia. It is very possible that Joseph Conejos Igual was educated musically in the Collegiate Church of Rubielos, as did his uncle and his uncle. He also had to be trained in composition in El Pilar with Luis Serra, according to the letter of recommendation of the master of chapel of La Seo, Joseph Lanuza. After Francisco Viñas' departure for Calahorra in 1731, the position of chapel master of the Cathedral of Jaca was vacant. "No contest or exam" Joseph Conejos Igual took office of the master's degree of Jaca on July 3, 1734. After fifteen years in office, in 1749 it is read in the chapter acts of Jaca that "the Master of Chapel had settled elsewhere, and that the job was vacant." He was replaced in 1750 by Blas Bosqued, originally from Jaca and who had been educated in the choir of the cathedral. Escuer Salcedo published in 2020 that the teacher had moved to Alquézar, where he held the position of master of chapel in the Collegiate Church of Santa María la Mayor. He remained in Alquézar until his death in 1785. With the arrival of Igual in Jaca,
