Josep Duran i Pejoán (Cadaqués, Alto Ampurdán, 1730 - Barcelona, 24 of January of 1802) was a Catalan composer of opera and religious music who was active in the transition between Baroque and Classicism. From 1755 he was Master of the Chapel of the Palace of the Countess of Barcelona, and from 1780 of the Cathedral of Barcelona. Of clear Italian influence, he was a disciple of Francesco Durante in Naples. When he returned to Barcelona, he was master of the chapel to the Marquis de Los Vélez and, apparently, also of the cathedral. He often directed the performance of operas at the Teatro de la Santa Cruz, and helped to establish a taste for Italian lyrical drama. Contemporary with the beginnings of Classicism, he composed a lot of religious music and oratorios , activities that alternated with the composition of profane works , such as two operas that were premiered in the years 1760 and 1762. In addition to the original Baroque, Duran was also linked to trends symphonic, all without neglecting the Italianism that characterized it. He was the author of the first opera with music written by a Catalan that premiered in Catalonia: Antigono , premiered on July 10 , 1760 at the Teatro de la Santa Cruz , with an Italian libretto , as was common at the time. A second production Temistocle it based on a text of the libretista famous Metastasio , opened at the same place on 4 November 1762. We have also received two overtures : one in D major and the other in F major. User-co
