Artist
Domènec Teixidor (born around 1685; died 1737 in Lleida) was a Catalan organist, conductor and composer of the Baroque period. He left music-theoretical works and numerous religious compositions. It is not known where Domènec Teixidor received his musical training. He is first mentioned in 1706 in connection with his application and in the recruitment competition for the position of organist at the Barcelona church of Santa Maria del Mar. In 1715 he was appointed organist at Lleida Cathedral, succeeding Francesc Vidal. The following year he also took over the position of Kapellmeister from Gabriel Argany. He held this position until his death. The works of Domènec Teixidor preserved in the archives of Lleida Cathedral and in the Biblioteca de Catalunya show that he had a very good knowledge of the music of his time. He created numerous religious compositions and particularly villancets. Notable are his setting of the psalm Benedictus Dominus for eleven voices and an improvisation for organ. In two writings from 1716 and 1718 on the occasion of the controversy surrounding Francesc Valls' Scala Aretina, Teixidor took a stand for Valls and the artist's freedom.
