Francesc Juncà i Querol, (Sabadell, November 28, 1742 - Girona, June 19, 1833) was a Catalan religious, composer and master of chapel. Juncá was born in Sabadell, on November 28, 1742. There were other musicians with the surname of Juncá who could be family or even brothers of Francisco Juncá. Thus, for example, Benito Juncá, who is only known to be an organist of Santa María del Mar in 1796, and Melchor Juncá, master of chapel of the Cathedral of Tarragona in 1793. Francisco Juncá trained musically in the School of Montserrat. He briefly became the second master of the chapel of the basilica of Santa María del Mar in Barcelona. In 1769 he objected to the teachers of Las Descalzas Reales of Madrid and the Cathedral of Malaga, but without success in both cases. Instead, he won the oppositions of chapel master of the Cathedral of Girona that had been convened after the death of master Manuel Gonima, being appointed on January 3, 1773. In Girona he had as a student the organist Josep Pons. His teaching in Girona was not without difficulties: Juncá found an aged chapel and unable to professionally face his musical services. On December 16, 1780, he obtained the place of master chapel of the Cathedral of Toledo, the primate cathedral of Spain, one of the most prestigious positions in the country.
