about

Francisco Vicente Navarro (Mosqueruela, 1738 - Avila, August 6, 1781) was a Spanish composer and master of the chapel. Francisco Vicente Navarro was born in Mosqueruela, in the Province of Teruel. It is likely that he was educated with the organist of his native town or at the grammar school of nearby Cantavieja, where the musicians Agustín Sesé, Miguel Rambla or José Gargallo were also educated. Probably later he went to study at La Seo de Zaragoza as an infant of the choir, under the teaching of Luis Serra. He was a chapel teacher at the church of San Felipe Neri in Madrid. Thanks to a recommendation of José de Nebra, at that time the second master of chapel of the Royal Chapel of Madrid, he obtained the magisterium of the Cathedral of El Burgo de Osma. After the departure of Fabián García Pacheco, the council had consulted Nebra about the masters Navarro and García de Carrasquedo, at that time in the magisterium of [José de Nebra] has heard and admired several of his works, in which he combines the beautiful modern taste with the ancient background, so that he considers it very skilled to satisfy and carry with brilliance all the obligations attached to the teachers of the first cathedrals in Spain. In Osma he tried to revalue the music chapel, reproaching some musicians for their passive attitude, denouncing the lack of some instruments and putting the infants under their responsibility. He could not fulfill his responsibilities as he would have liked due to diseases
