The Federal Duck was a student rock band at Haverford College in which Dave Barry played in the 1960s. Formed by banjo exponent George Stavis, they produced one lone self-titled LP in 1968. Stavis departed soon after this album's release to form the Californian communal rock band Oganookie and then to record an eponymous album for Vanguard. Originally known as The Guides, the band also included Tony Shaftel, Bob Stern, Huck White, Kenny Stover and Timmy Ackerman. Unfortunately, Barry quit right before the album was recorded. Although he's not credited, he wrote "Hello," a roughly 10-second ditty at the end of Side 1. The name of the band was inspired by the Federal Duck Stamp Program.
