FAUVE (often stylized as FAUVE ≠) is a French arts collective and musical group that emerged in Paris around 2010. They became one of the most significant cultural phenomena in France during the early 2010s by blending spoken word, indie rock, and a distinct visual identity. The collective was designed to be an "open" group, involving not just musicians but also photographers, videographers, and graphic designers. They operated under a veil of semi-anonymity, rarely showing their faces in promotional materials to ensure the focus remained on their collective output rather than individual personalities. Their signature symbol, the "not equal" sign (≠), represented their desire to stand apart from the traditional music industry. Their style is characterized by "spoke-sung" vocals—a frantic, emotional delivery that feels like a cross between slam poetry and a manifesto. The lyrics often dealt with "le Blizzard," a metaphor they used for the anxiety, social pressure, and darkness of modern life, contrasted with themes of intense friendship and hope. The group released their breakthrough EP, Blizzard, in 2013, followed by a two-part studio album titled Vieux Frères (Part 1 in 2014 and Part 2 in 2015). Despite their massive success and ability to sell out major venues like the Bataclan and the Zénith, they decided to put the project on an indefinite hiatus in late 2015. The core members later moved on to a more pop-oriented project called Automasne. User-contributed text is ava
