Cándido José Ruano (El Viso, c. June 14, 1760 - Toledo, March 17, 1803) was a Spanish composer and master of the chapel. He was baptized in El Viso, on June 14, 1760. It was formed in the Cathedral of Toledo, probably under the teaching of Francisco Juncá, since in 1782 in Ávila it was presented as six of Toledo. In 1781 he applied to the competitions for the teaching of the Cathedral of Plasencia, vacada after the transfer of maestro Lino del Río to Madrid. In addition to Ruano, who was not qualified, Juan José Bueno, tenor of the Cathedral of Coria; Fernando Ferandiere, musician of Madrid; Vicente Hernández, perhaps Vicente Fernández himself appointed as chapel master of El Pilar; Melchor López Jiménez, singer of the Royal Chapel of Madrid; and Raimundo Luis Forné, musician of Madrid. In 1782 he was appointed master of the chapel of the Cathedral of Ávila, whose magisterium had become vacant after the death of maestro Francisco Vicente Navarro in 1781. On December 14, 1792, he was appointed master of the chapel of the Cathedral of Toledo, primacy of Spain, replacing Francisco Juncá, who had retired that same year. He took office, one of the most prestigious in Spain, on March 5, 1793, staying for ten years, until his death on March 17, 1803. The works of Ruano are preserved in the Monastery of Montserrat, the cathedrals of Toledo and Asstorga, and especially in the Cathedral of Ávila.
