Brynn Andre is a Minneapolis singer/songwriter. Originally from Western North Dakota, Andre brings a confessional and often heart-wrenching touch to her music. Andre’s voice is solid, with stylings akin to Missy Higgins and Vanessa Carlton, but her greatest strength is in the songwriting. Andre knows who she’s singing to and nails the target head-on, and while her confessional pop sound is far from feel-good and sugary, her lyrics line up nicely with a well-executed percussive piano melody. Andre’s songs are all heart-on-my-sleeve, and her voice is tuned perfectly for dynamic keying.— Natalie Gallagher for Gimme Noise About Snowboots, the first record: Snowboots is the debut album by 25-year old Williston, North Dakota singer-songwriter and pianist Brynn Andre. The record showcases Andre’s fluency in several generations of orchestral pop – from French Yé-Yé (France Gall, Francoise Hardy), to Northern European chamber (Camera Obscura, El Perro del Mar), to piano-led American (Tori Amos, Charlotte Martin). Discovered by Words On Music record label head Eric Ostermeier in 2004 when Brynn was 19, Andre’s compositions drift between the naked poetics of a young composer singing to herself on piano and a flood of stylish orchestral movements – arranged by Ostermeier and recorded at Words On Music’s Minneapolis studio.
