The Battle of York started in the summer of 2011 in Woodbridge, VA. After playing a few local parties in separate acts, Jimi York (lead vocals, guitar) joined Jon Yi (lead guitar), Shawn Adams (banjo, vocals), Sarah Brusko (vocals), Sam Klemz (guitar), Jake Rivera (drums), Travis Fowler (piano) and Kirk Tinnel (bass) to form what would become Battle of York, a folk/Americana group known for its energetic live performances. The band was well received at their first show and immediately started working on original material, primarily written by Jimi and Jon. They began to grow a following around northern Virginia and soon began work on their debut EP, Junior, which was entirely self-recorded and released in July 2012. Jimi and the rest of the members of Battle of York have varied influences such as City & Colour, Thrice and Fleetwood Mac, resulting in different styles for each song. From the 1950’s style rock n’ roll of “Junior” to the Dallas Green inspired simplicity of “Like Clockwork,” each song has its own unique voice that collectively represents the Battle of York.
