Anton Ferdinand Paris (born 19 February 1744 in Salzburg; died 1 June 1809 in Salzburg) was a Salzburg composer and organist whose working life was embedded in the city’s court-and-cathedral musical institutions. The Österreichisches Musiklexikon records him as the son of the Domstiftsorganist and teacher Joseph Georg Paris (c. 1700–1760) and the singer Maria Katharina (née Michl), and it notes that in 1762 he succeeded his father as third organist, later rising within the Salzburg establishment; Salzburgwiki similarly frames him as trained by his father and educated at the Salzburg Benedictine gymnasium, before entering institutional service after becoming an orphan. Under Archbishop Hieronymus Graf Colloredo, Paris advanced in rank among Salzburg’s organists; the OeML entry characterises him as becoming first court organist (and indicates a specific instance in 1778 where he was paid to deputise for W. A. Mozart during Mozart’s absence in Paris), while Salzburgwiki states he moved from third court organist to second court organist and, after 1807, to first cathedral organist, adding that he was on friendly terms with the Mozart family.
