"You Gotta Live" was the first album of original compositions recorded by Stratus Gospel. The band had formally been known as The Christ Inspired and His Seed before being rechristened for the release of the album. Some of the tracks and variations on them were first introduced and performed at a benefit performance at the Anaheim High School auditorium in 1986. That marked the last performance as His Seed and the beginning of Stratus Gospel with the later addition of a new bass player, keyboard player, and additional lead guitarist. The album was recorded in 1986 at the Evan Williams Recording Studio in Santa Ana, CA and produced by Greg Yova and Gary McGinnis. The title track "You Gotta Live" was written by Jim Arnold (synths) and Peggy Crawford (lead vocals/keyboards) They also wrote "His Love" and in many ways, those two tracks came to define the Stratus Gospel sound. The title track was also the only one to ever get any radio play. It was aired a few time by the old KYMS christian music station in Orange County. The track was release as a single with an A and B side version with, and without, the lead guitar overdub. Back in the day, it was considered very radical to have electric guitar leads in gospel music. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
