METAL MAIDENS # 8 1997 Europe/USA/Canada Quarterly CD June ’97 : The Mirror World Dimension Reviewer: Toine v. Poorten Cirrha Niva is derived from Cirrha and Nisa, the mountaintops of the Parnassus. Symbol of divine wisdom, poetic inspiration and human knowledge. These words are to be read in Cirrha Niva’s biography. Cirrha Niva ON THIS ALBUM is Rob Willemse (lead and rhythm guitar), Peter Vennema (lead and rhythm guitar), Eric Smits (vocals, keyboards), Jack Puijker (drums, keyboards & sequencer programming) and metal maiden Liselotte Hegt on bass and backing vocals. From opener Redemption Denied until the last notes of Obscured, the band seems to take you into another dimension. Away from life on earth, away from 1997. Is this future or past, day or night, heaven or hell? I think that only The Time Juggler (title of track no.6 on the album) knows. Cirrha Niva plays real progressive metal. It’s too easy to only compare their sound with masters of this kind of ‘underrated’ rock music. But I hear influences of PSYCHOTIC WALTZ, WATCHTOWER, IRON MAIDEN (from songs like The rhime of the ancient mariner) and a lot of MEMENTO MORI. This CD is a must, if you like any of the above mentioned bands. The music of Cirrha Niva puts you in a time machine and it will only let you go after a journey of thirty-five minutes. For me this CD of Cirrha Niva shows what good progressive metal is all about! The Mirror World Dimension is an essential buy! _______________________________________ A
