"Somewhere in Time" is the sixth studio album by the English heavy metal band Iron Maiden. It was released on 29 September 1986 in the United Kingdom by EMI Records and in the United States by Capitol Records. The album marked the first time the band used guitar synthesisers in their sound. Since its release, "Somewhere in Time" has been certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, indicating sales of over one million copies in the United States. The album was supported by the "Somewhere on Tour" concert tour. In 2023, material from the album was revisited as part of the "Future Past World Tour", alongside songs from the 2021 album "Senjutsu". "Somewhere in Time" was recorded following the extensive "World Slavery Tour" of 1984 to 1985, which lasted 331 days and included 187 concerts. The demanding schedule led to exhaustion within the band. During the album’s development, lead vocalist Bruce Dickinson contributed no songwriting, as his material was not included in the final selection. Dickinson had composed several acoustic-based songs, while bassist Steve Harris and other members focused on material that aligned with the band’s established direction. In contrast, guitarist Adrian Smith contributed several songs, including the singles "Wasted Years" and "Stranger in a Strange Land".
