Album
"Piece of Mind" is the fourth studio album by English heavy metal band Iron Maiden. It was released on 16 May 1983 in the United Kingdom by EMI Records and in the United States by Capitol Records. The album marked the first appearance of drummer Nicko McBrain, who had previously played with the French band Trust. The album reached number three on the UK Albums Chart and received platinum certification in both the UK and North America. In December 1982, former drummer Clive Burr left the band due to personal and scheduling issues, and McBrain was recruited as his replacement. The band wrote the songs at a hotel in Jersey before recording at Compass Point Studios in Nassau, Bahamas, and later mixing the album at Electric Lady Studios in New York City. "Piece of Mind" is one of four Iron Maiden albums not named after a track included on the album. The working title was originally "Food for Thought" before the band settled on "Piece of Mind." The album’s liner notes feature a modified passage from the Book of Revelation, altered as a wordplay on the album’s title. The back cover includes the message: "No synthesisers or ulterior motives". The album's lyrics reflect various literary, historical, and cinematic influences. "To Tame a Land" was inspired by Frank Herbert's 1965 novel "Dune"; "Sun and Steel" was based on the life of samurai Miyamoto Musashi and Yukio Mishima’s essay "Sun and Steel"; "Still Life" drew on Ramsey Campbell's short story "The Inhabitant of the Lake"; and
