Departing entirely from the lo-fi productions and direct approach of their earlier records, the album presents a refined, dense, and atmospheric sound, delving into an aesthetic that flirts with dissonant and modern black metal, while not renouncing elements of their old-school heritage. A NEW SONIC IDENTITY: While Profound Evil Presence (2019) already showcased the band's inclination towards dark atmospheres and more detailed arrangements, Shadows Devouring Light elevates this concept to a new level. The sound now distances itself almost entirely from thrash metal and primitive black metal, adopting a more immersive and introspective structure. Melancholic passages and oppressive moods supersede the speed and simplicity of yesteryear, resulting in an album that aligns more with contemporary black metal.
