Album
Revolving around a dark sound, 2007's critically acclaimed "Night Songs" is appropriately indebted to the night in spirit. With songs representing various times of the night, ending at "Sunrise" in the morning, it is an appropriately--and intentionally--bleak album with occasional shades of light and optimism. Combining a tribal attack merged with Phil Spector grandeur and spacy psychedelic sonics, it's slow Sabbath meets Spacemen 3 grind is both indirect and mechanical, yet alluring and oddly organic, revealing shades and textures rather than colors and obvious rock conventions.
