Album
Based on a Middle Eastern theme, both musically and lyrically, it ups the tempo and aggression level of the critically acclaimed "Night Songs" ' heaviness, while increasing the mechanical, robotic feel of it's predecessor. Shorter, more concise and a bit less epic (but still epic nonetheless), the songs are at once more immediate and still melodic, never relying only on pure heaviness for it's sonic bludgeoning. "Desert Opuses" ' world is one of drum machines versus acoustic drums; tubes versus transistors; live performances versus studio effectation; eras past versus the future/ now. The overall result is a combination of High On Fire, Godflesh and Spacemen 3. Released in 2009, it is on translucent gold 140 gram vinyl (400 copies only), and includes one track not on the cd release, "The Desert Winds", and a different mix of "Obliteration". The cd version has two tracks, "Evilution" and "Stripped Ruins" that aren't on the vinyl. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
