"Reasoning with madness never works, but there are always people willing to try." --Brenda Maddox, "Nora: The Real Life of Molly Bloom" Empathica is Coin locker kid's fifth album and second after his 2013 departure. In contrast to Hailstorm & Maelstrom, the previous 2015 release, Empathica explores a much more electronic sound, in some ways continuing the story of Hailstorm & Maelstrom and in many others separating itself. Similar to Hailstorm & Maelstrom, which was made in collaboration with singer-songwriter Katheryn Buckner (see "Begotten.") the album was created in collaboration with the underrated Ballerine Nadiya, who sings in "Adventures in babysitting" and who's sampled for "Oh, perispomenon!"'s background music. The album was not originally pressed on cassette, as opposed to Hailstorm & Maelstrom. The only official cassette issue is 2022's Cyan Sun Records reissue, featuring art by Jaeden Fuller. People credited with working on the album (as further instrumentation) include Domonique Ellis, Matthew Epstein, Daniel J. W!shington, and vlad.
